Policemen suspended over custodial death
Three police officials have been suspended here after a man detained after being accused in a minor accident case died in their custody, officials said on Tuesday.
Chandigarh: Three police officials have been suspended here after a man detained after being accused in a minor accident case died in their custody, officials said on Tuesday.
Inderjit, 35, was picked up by the police on Monday afternoon when his horse cart hit a pedestrian who received minor injuries.
Detained in Industrial Area police station, Inderjit was taken to a hospital in Sector-16 for a medical examination at around 4.15 pm, said the sources. However, the reason for his hospitalisation was not known.
At around 8pm Inderjit was found dead in the police station, the sources said. The police claimed that he strangled himself with a belt and was found dead by a sentry on duty.
