Police collect evidence in tourist rape case
Efforts were made on Sunday to nab the men who allegedly abducted a German woman from the upscale Taj hotel here and took her to a room where they raped her before dropping her nearly 12 hours later.
Chandigarh: Efforts were made on Sunday to nab the men who allegedly abducted a German woman from the upscale Taj hotel here and took her to a room where they raped her before dropping her nearly 12 hours later.
The incident took place early Sunday when six men in a black SUV kidnapped the 20-year-old tourist from the parking lot of the Taj in Chandigarh's commercial hub Sector 17.
The woman, in the city to attend the wedding of a Germany-based friend, has complained that she was taken to a room where she was raped, beaten and threatened. About 12 hours later, a white Maruti car dropped her in Sector 20, close to the hotel.
The unidentified youth have been booked for attempt to rape, illegal confinement and intimidation.
S.S. Srivastava, the city's senior superintendent of police, said: "The victim has told the medical board that she had been raped."
"The final report confirming the rape is still awaited," he said.
"We are also trying to collect clues with the help of CCTV cameras installed at the hotel from where the young tourist was abducted," he added.
Police has traced the registration number of the SUV to Haryana. "We are also trying to establish the details of the white Maruti car that dropped her back in Sector 20," said a police official.
