Opinion poll suggests a hung house
Congress-NCP alliance emerging as the single largest with 109 seats
Mumbai: The February 16 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) poll will throw up a hung house, with the Congress-NCP alliance emerging as the single largest with 109 seats, according to an opinion poll by Marathi television channel Star Majha in association with agency Nelson.
The Star Majha-Nelson survey predicts out of the 109 seats to be won in the Congress-NCP alliance in the BMC poll, the Shiv Sena-BJP-Republican Party of India (A) grand alliance would secure 96 seats.
The Sena-BJP alliance has ruled the BMC, Asia's largest civic body, for the last 16 years. In the event the Congress-NCP alliance wins 103 seats, the two parties together will still fall short of a majority of 114 seats in the 227 member BMC.
