Marriage goes down the drain for newly-weds

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bizarre and tragic event, a girl in Kochi who had just officially registered her marriage, had to witness her husband pick up a fight with her and fling her jewellery into a drain.
Rajesh and Bindu were working at a beauty parlour in the city. They fell in love and recently decided to get married.
They officially registered their marriage on Monday. But the events that unfolded in the hours that followed left Bindu in misery while Rajesh was reported missing.
According to reports, the couple went shopping for gold after their marriage when they had a difference of opinion on what to buy. The differences turned so bitter that Rajesh flung the bag containing the jewellery, reportedly worth Rs80,000 (Dh6,150), into a drain.
Stunned by the act, Bindu fainted and was later taken to the General Hospital in the city.
Bag found
Police and fire force officials along with locals made a search for the bag in the drain and it was retrieved after a few hours, but the bag contained only some cash and no jewellery.
Reports said that Bindu's aged mother had pledged their house to raise money to buy the ornaments.
It is suspected that Rajesh may have taken the ornaments, flinging only the bag and its remaining contents into the drain.
Police have launched a search for the groom, who made good his escape when people gathered to help Bindu and try to recover the bag from the drain.
