Srinagar: Hundreds of demonstrators clashed with police in Indian Kashmir on Friday, leaving at least 20 people hurt, police said.
Six of those hurt in the clashes were policemen.
Witnesses said that police used teargas and batons to disperse hundreds of stone-throwing demonstrators in several parts of Srinagar.
The Jammu-Kashmir Coordination Committee, a new alliance of Muslim separatists and representatives of businesses and lawyers, called for the protests after Friday prayers.
The disputed Himalayan region has seen some of the biggest pro-independence demonstrations in the past two months.
