Goa orders second autopsy on UK teenager
Goan authorities are investigating whether 15-year-old Scarlet Keeling could have been raped and killed. The victim's parents are demanding a thorough look into the case.
Panaji: Authorities in Goa have ordered a second autopsy on a British girl who was found murdered on Anjuna Beach last month.
Goan authorities are investigating whether 15-year-old Scarlet Keeling could have been raped and killed. The victim's parents are demanding a thorough look into the case.
Police had found Scarlet Keeling's body with bruises all over her body on the deserted beach, but initially claimed that she had drowned.
Keeling's parents, however, said Scarlet was raped and murdered.
50 marks on body
"I have identified my daughter's body. There are 50 marks on her body compared to the five recorded in the first autopsy," said Fionna Mackeown, Scarlet's mother.
Vikram Verma, the counsel for the parents of the victim, said: "Based on the evidence on the file and the mother's deposition, the police have ordered a second autopsy to be conducted by a panel of doctors other than the original doctors who had performed the autopsy."
An autopsy report has revealed that Scarlet's mouth was stuffed with sand and that she did not have enough salt water in her lungs to suggest drowning.
Authorities in Goa have said they have asked the police to delve deeper into the case.
