Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India: A young man shot dead a woman he met on Facebook and fell in love with after a three-year online relationship.
The romance blossomed on the social-networking site after Vineet Singh, 22, met Jyoti Kori, 45, a mother of three.
Their first meeting came to a tragic end when Singh was outraged after realising that Kori had lied to him on Facebook, claiming she was 21-years old and unmarried.
The incident took place in the postcard-perfect Marble Rocks Waterfall in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India.
After shooting Kori, Singh then shot himself and died at a local hospital later.
Police reported that Singh, who hails from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh state, was jobless, while Kori was the bored housewife, but a Facebook regular.
Police learnt about the incident when Vineet, gasping for breath and soaked in his own blood, sought help from horrified people nearby.
Harinarayanachari Mishra, superintendent of police (SP) in Jabalpur, said the two were in touch for about three years.
Kori’s husband, who works as a clerk in the irrigation department, and their three children, including her 21-year-old eldest daughter, had no clue about what was going on.
Witnesses said when Singh was brought to the hospital, he kept saying a married woman had cheated him.
The two had never exchanged photographs and their meeting on Friday was their first, said police, who learnt that Kori had told her family she was going to her mother's home for two days, while Singh told his parents he was going to Delhi to hunt for a job.
The woman left home and went to her parental home on Thursday, but left early in the morning.
It was not immediately clear how Singh managed to get the murder weapon.
