New Delhi: Delhi's privately operated Blueline buses continued as normal yesterday, defying a government crackdown, court orders and public uproar, as a young professional was killed by one of the vehicles, taking the death toll from such incidents this year to 67.

Sachin Kapoor, 22, was crushed by a bus plying on Route No 429 between Old Delhi railway station and Nehru Place near Captain Gaur Marg in Lajpat Nagar of south Delhi.

Kapoor, who worked with computer training firm NIIT, was riding his motorbike to work when he was hit by the Blueline from behind.

Succumbed

He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he succumbed to head and chest injuries. Kapoor became the 67th victim of Blueline buses this year.

Police said bus driver Balwant Singh was arrested on the spot and the bus was impounded.

"We have informed the victim's parents about the incident and the body will be handed over to them after the post-mortem examination," a police official said.

In a separate incident, a Blueline bus plying on Route No 355 between Anand Vihar and New Delhi injured a man while he was crossing the road near Sheila Cinema in the Nabi Karim area of central Delhi.

The victim, Arjun, 35, was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. He is believed to be recuperating.
