Baba Ramdev stable in hospital but feeling weak, doctors say
Fasting yoga guru is facing problems sitting up and speaking
Dehradun: Fasting yoga guru Baba Ramdev's health condition is stable as he continues to be in a hospital but he is feeling weak, doctors attending on him said Saturday.
"His condition is stable. Last [Friday] night there was a sudden fall in his parameters but it was controlled through treatment. All parameters are under control now," Dr Deepak Goyal from Jolly Grant Hospital said.
He, however, added that Ramdev is having "problem in sitting and speaking, and he has weakness".
Goyal said Ramdev was not in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but in a VIP ward next to the ICU along with his close aide Acharya Balakrishna. He also clarified that the yoga guru has not taken any food orally so far. "He is being given a drip of saline glucose and vitamins. He has not taken any food orally," Goyal said.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) yesterday requested Ramdev to end his fast against corruption as his health was deteriorating.
"I prayerfully appeal to Baba Ramdev to call off his fast soon and rejoin the movement for national regeneration," RSS supremo Mohan Bhagwat said.
Bhagwat said it was not his appeal but the hope of millions of countrymen that Ramdev would respond positively to their sentiments and call off his fast.
Meanwhile, Congress leader P.L. Punia said that Ramdev's fast has lost its significance and was "meaningless" now.
"What Ramdev is doing now has no significance. His fast has no meaning now as his demands have been accepted by the central government. Now he should call off his fast," Punia, chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission, said.
Punia was in the Uttar Pradesh capital to participate in a function organised by the Congress human rights and legal cell here.
"He [Ramdev] is now unnecessarily continuing with his fast. The Haridwar district authorities and the Uttarakhand government along with others, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, are making efforts so that Ramdev calls off his fast. Authorities are in constant touch with Ramdev as far as his health is concerned," he added.
Booklet
Meanwhile, a booklet brought out by the Congress to defuse opposition parties' aggressive campaign and highlight various anti-corruption steps of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has addressed questions raised by yoga guru Baba Ramdev on black money.
The booklet The Congress view on present situation-1, released on Friday, has a photograph of party chief Sonia Gandhi on the cover.
The party intends to distribute the booklet during its proposed rallies in state capitals this month.
The booklet has contested several issues raised by Ramdev, including the figure of Rs400 trillion (Dh33.33 trillion) he has quoted as the amount of black money stashed abroad.
"Many of the demands raised by different persons are ill-informed and baseless. For example, to suggest that Rs400 trillion is stashed abroad is a preposterous claim," said the booklet.
The booklet did not name Ramdev but sought to demolish issues raised by him. Ramdev has been on a fast since June 4 when his rally at Delhi's Ramlila Ground was dispersed by police in a midnight crackdown.
"To suggest that the Indian rupee can equal $50 betrays one's colossal ignorance. To demand that currency notes of denomination of Rs1,000 and Rs500 should be demonetised is not only impractical but fraught with grave consequences," the booklet said.
Raj Bala Critical
The condition of 51-year-old Raj Bala is "very critical," doctors said yesterday, a week after she suffered spinal injuries during police action against yoga guru Baba Ramdev in New Delhi.
"Raj Bala is conscious, her vital parameters are being maintained with pharmacological support and she continues to be on ventilatory support. Her condition is very critical," N. Shashi Gururaja, medical superintendent, G.B. Pant Hospital, said in a statement.
Bala, a resident of Gurgaon, underwent surgery on June 5 for cervical spinal injuries. Doctors said the neurological status of Bala remains unchanged and she is quadriplegic. The doctors have done decompression and fixation using plate, screw and cage.
