Arrest brings terror focus to Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The recent arrest of a suspected top leader of a banned terrorist organisation hailing from Kerala has brought the relatively unknown terror-related activities in the state into focus.
Peediackal Shibly, who belongs to Erattupetta in Kottayam district, was one of the 13 alleged activists the Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) arrested on March 26 in Madhya Pradesh.
Security forces consider Shibly's arrest a breakthrough since he is reportedly wanted over the 2006 Mumbai train blasts.
Following his arrest, Kerala police raided his house in Erattupetta recently.
The raiding party also searched the house of Shibly's brother Shaduli, who had reportedly been under investigation some time in the past. The newfound attraction of Kerala's educated youths to terror outfits is worrying the security forces.
