Sydney: Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that is burning on the edge of Australia's largest city, with officials warning residents to stay in their homes rather than attempt to outrun the blaze.
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service on Thursday said that the fire at Londonderry, about 60 kilometres northwest of Sydney, had burned several cars and sheds, but not destroyed any homes.
The fire burned 37 acres (15 hectares) by Thursday evening, and around 150 firefighters were dispatched to fight the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Wildfires are a regular feature of Australia's hot summer months.
Temperatures in the region have reached 40 degrees Celsius over the past two days, leaving conditions ripe for fires.
