Sharjah: The Sharjah municipality is set to unveil a new service that will enable residents to pay their parking fines online.
"The service was launched in order to facilitate traffic [fine] payments and to reduce traffic congestion towards the municipality and the transport department. Traffic can become very heavy at certain times of the day," said Abdul Rahman Al Mahmoud, manager of the Transport and Freightage Department at Sharjah Municipality.
The service, which will be available in Arabic and English, was launched yesterday but will be activated on Sunday. Residents looking to make enquiries and payments can log on to www.tfd.ae.
"Residents can check their parking violations and also pay their fines electronically," Al Mahmoud said, adding that the service marked the first electronic payment option offered by Sharjah Municipality. More electronic services would be offered over the course of the year, he said.
The municipality's priority, he said, is to reduce traffic in the heart of the city. "The number of parking violations have definitely decreased in the last year as people are abiding by the rules and are not repeating their offences.
"The problem of vehicles obstructing traffic will be addressed in several stages. The first stage will take effect in May when we will open the first multi-storey car park in Al Qasimia."
By next month, the Transport and Freightage Department intends to open a new centre for residents to pay their parking fines. The new outlet will be located at Industrial Area 11.
Residents can make their inquiries and payments at any one of the outlets, including the four that are curently operational, from 7am to 1pm. The centre at the head office of the transport department alone will remain open in the afternoon, from 5pm to 9pm.
