Dubai: Internal roads worth Dh835 million have been completed since 2012, with more roads worth Dh207 to be ready this year, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Saturday.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA said that 16 residential districts of Dubai got a new network of roads at a cost of Dh835 million as part of the Five-Year Plan of 2012-2016.
The last remaining projects of the plan will ready this year with new roads built at a cost of Dh118 million at Al Mamzar and Al Nahda 1 to open next month.
Work is in progress in Nad Al Sheba 4 at a cost of Dh89 million, which is set for completion by the end of this year.
Al Tayer said that the total cost these projects surpasses Dh1 billion.
The Al Mamzar and Nahda 1 projects include four districts: north and south of Cairo Street (District 134), and north and south of Baghdad Street (District 231), said Al Tayer.
“The projects cover the construction of single-lane and dual carriageway streets stretching over 20 km, revamping all existing road networks in the area and providing 30 parking slots. It also includes the installation of a new traffic light on Amman Street to streamline the flow of traffic in the entries and exits of Nahda 1 along with directional signage and road markings,” said Al Tayer.
He added that the completion of the project will ensure streamlined traffic flow on all internal roads as well as in the entry and exit points of the two areas.
