Dubai: The judicial department in Abu Dhabi has offered a few words of advice on how to make a marriage work.

Social media users in the UAE agreed with the authority’s tips, but also pointed out that marriage problems are difficult to overcome when spouses are stubborn, or when one refuses to acknowledge they were the ones at fault.

On its official Twitter account, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department advised spouses not to regard their partner as an angel whose sole purpose is dedicated to the home, to understand that mistakes are normal, and that marriages can work if you are able to overlook those mistakes.

Authorities in the UAE have been tackling the issue of high divorce rates after a recent report showed an increase in divorce rates in Abu Dhabi.

The study revealed that a total of 1,922 divorce cases were registered in Abu Dhabi in 2016 as compared to 1,813 in 2015, according to the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

The report also indicated that more than 50 per cent of the marriages in Aby Dhabi did not last three years, while 28 per cent of couples requested a divorce within one year.
