Dubai: The UAE authorities are searching for an Indian fisherman who went missing after his boat met with an accident over a week ago.

Rahul Hosson from the eastern Indian state of West Bengal went missing following the boat accident on November 9, according his friends in India who sought the help of authorities through social media.

“His partners were hospitalised and he was the only one missing,” a Tweet from Subham Das said.

Another tweet by Hosson’s friend Rayhan Biswas said the former had come over to the UAE in February this year.

“He was engaged in a fisher man’s job there under someone named Haizam, a local resident there from Fujairah,” he said.

Following the pleas to Sushma Swaraj, Indian Minister of External Affairs and the Consulate General of India in Dubai, the consulate officials contacted the UAE authorities.

On Wednesday, they met the head of investigation at Kalba Police to inquire about the missing Indian fisherman.

“The police authorities have been making all efforts to trace him by helicopter sorties. Unfortunately the search has not been successful so far,” the consulate posted on Twitter after the visit.

An official at Kalba Police told Gulf News that they received report about the incident last Thursday and they cooperated with coast guard to search for the body as the incident occurred 25 miles away from the city’s shore.

Emirati fisherman Naif Saeed Al Naqbi said the incident occurred on November 9 around 10.30pm when one boat crashed into another fishing vessel. As a result of the collision, six sailors fell into the water, and the boat went out of control.

Five sailors were rescued while the sixth went missing. The survivors were taken to a hospital.
