Dubai: Filipino expatriates in the UAE will be celebrating the 119th Philippine Independence Day on May 12 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Philippine Independence Day is commemorated on June 12, marking the end of more than three centuries of Spanish rule. Since the date falls during Ramadan this year, consulate officials and volunteers decided to organise celebrations one month early.
Doors to Zabeel Hall 1 are open from 7am until 8pm, with organisers promising day-long entertainment: from cultural shows to competitions.
New entertainment features this year include Battle of the Bands, Mr & Miss PID, and several competitions including one on hairstyling, painting and a draw to giveaway 20 airline tickets to the Philippines.
Job hunters are also welcome to drop their applications for more than a dozen work opportunities at a job fair, according to UAE-based non-profit group FilClub.
Filipino businesses, restaurants and shops will also hold an expo.
