Dubai: The Guinness Book of Records has officially announced that it has recorded the largest continuous concrete pour in Dubai with a concrete volume of 21,580m³ for a residential commercial building in Jebel Ali.
Dubai achieves the fete for the second time in a row as it had broken the record last year in Al Barsha South, Dubai Municipality said in a press release on Tuesday.
Observers from Guinness Book of World Records attended the 35-hour and 19-minute concrete pouring process in Jebel Ali.
It started at 7.21 pm on May 18 and ended at 8.46 am on May 20 on an area of 20,612 square feet.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality received the Guinness certificate for the achievement. Senior officials Dawood Al Hajiri, Assistant Director General for Engineering and Planning Sector, Layali Al Mulla, Director of Buildings Department and Abdullah Al Shezawi, Head of Engineering Supervision Section were also present.
The average rate of concrete pouring in an hour was recorded 611 cubic meters, breaking the previous record related to the time taken.
During the process, 18 concrete pumps were used, and the ready mix concrete trucks made 2,618 trips for this purpose.
The concreting work was carried out with the presence of 500 workers per shift, and 2,700 tons of reinforcing steel bars was used for the work.
Three ready mix concrete supplying factories took part in the work and the specifications of the concrete used comes under the green concrete (sustainable).
It is made of environmentally friendly cement materials, which was authorized to be produced in the approved concrete plants in the Emirate of Dubai.
All ready-mix concrete factories in the emirate are subject to Dubai Municipality's supervision and control.
Lootah praised the achievement which, he said, could be accomplished thanks to the support and guidance of the government and the officials concerned in the Buildings Department.
He noted that those officials conducted technical and engineering supervision as well as checked the quality of materials and safety plans of construction for this process, the largest of its kind in the world.
He said that Dubai Municipality has always been keen to regulate, monitor and develop construction activities according to sustainability standards.
This is to ensure the safety of all buildings and to provide the environmental, health and technical requirements for its residents and pay particular attention to the cultural and aesthetic appearance of the Emirate of Dubai”.
The Municipality has a comprehensive plan to ensure the achievement of this objective through creating awareness among the stakeholders in the construction industry, whether it is the contracting companies, consultancy offices or sub-companies or the owners."
We have issued circulars regulating the construction sites that are under construction or temporarily suspended the works in order to safeguard the security of the community and protect it from the risks resulting from the interruption of work.
The circular seeks commitment to provide all the requirements related to the health and safety of public and environment,” said Lootah.
The second Guinness record achievement comes for the second year in a row, as Municipality had supervised during the last year in the same period with a concrete quantity of 19,793 cubic meters, which was implemented in Al Barsha South taking 42 hours.
