Dubai: Twenty-five Indian expats will be conferred the Iconic NRI Awards, a newly instituted honour, in Dubai on January 20, organisers said on Thursday.

India’s minister of state for external affairs, Gen. V.K. Singh, will honour the Indian expats in the presence of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, top executives of the firm NRI Media, which has instituted the Award, said at a press conference.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri and Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul are also scheduled to attend the event, they said.

They said the awardees, whose names will be announced on January 19, have uplifted the lives of expatriates by creating employment opportunities and have contributed to the all-round excellence of Indians in the UAE by leveraging innovative initiatives and charitable efforts.

“By launching the Iconic NRI Awards, we aim to respect the magnificent endeavours of NRIs and supplement the efforts of the Indian government to ensure expats are celebrated in their adopted homes and salute the spirit of the global Indians,” said Afi Ahmad, CEO and founder of NRI Media.

Vikas Bhargava, creative director and co-founder, said: “NRIs should not rest on our laurels and must contribute by being as successful as we possibly can by being more productive. Iconic NRI Awards will help achieve this aim by boosting the morale of the Indian diaspora and catapulting the efforts of the NRI community who have made an impact on the society.”

The event is by invitation only.
