Dubai: Christmas celebrations will arrive a little early this year for British expatriates at the Great Christmas Ball on Thursday evening, say organisers.

The festive occasion for members and guests of the British Business Group Dubai and Northern Emirates will take place on the grounds of the British Embassy in Dubai slightly ahead of the holidays when many British expats fly home to be with family.

The Christmas ball is “starting the festive celebrations early this year to enable those wishing to mark the occasion to come together with colleagues, friends and loved ones before the annual exodus for the season”, a spokesperson said in a statement.

The Yuletide gala will include “a full traditional Christmas dinner, complete with Yule log and Christmas pudding” courtesy of sponsor Jumeirah.

Organisers said there is “the possibility of a surprise visit from a special visitor”.

The black-tie event will also usher in a special achievement for the business group marking “the culmination of a year’s worth of 30th anniversary celebrations for the group.”

Musical acts “Swing Revue and DJ Marky Mark will ensure the spirit of celebration is maintained late into the night. Ladies are therefore advised to wear wedges, flats or heel stoppers to ensure they can make the most of the grassy dance floor”, said the spokesperson.

The Great Christmas Ball follows the well-received family-focused Great British Day Out held earlier this year.

“This is a great opportunity to get together as a community and celebrate another year of learning and success in Dubai, and to enjoy each other’s company in a stunning setting, so don’t miss out,” said the spokesperson.
