Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation summoned the Swiss Ambassador to the UAE on Sunday over a Swiss statement against Bahrain at the Human Rights Council.

Dr. Abdul Rahim Al Awadhi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Legal Affairs, summoned Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE, expressing the UAE’s condemnation of the Swiss statement against Bahrain at the Human Rights Council.

Shaikh Mohammad Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Director of the European Affairs Department at the ministry, was present during the meeting.

Al Awadhi said that it would have been better to solve such issues through bilateral official channels between Bahrain and Switzerland for this purpose.  He stressed that this statement contradicts the truth where Bahrain has made many steps to promote human rights issues. 

Al Awadhi told the Swish envoy that Bahrain’s security and stability is that of the UAE, and that such a statement gives a pretext to terrorists to commit acts of sabotage and terrorism. He that the UAE is aspired that the Swiss government would review its stand  on this matter.
