Abu Dhabi: The UAE will continue to enhance and adopt a balanced foreign policy based on mutual respect and cooperation, said Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy.
The Foreign Minister made the comments on the UAE’s foreign policy initiatives while highlighting the important role the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) will play in supporting and helping map out the strategic policy and objectives of the UAE.
The EDA is an integrated foreign policy academic and research centre that aims to strengthen the knowledge of UAE nationals related to the fields of foreign policy and diplomacy. Founded in 2014, the EDA offers and prepares Emiratis to serve in the country’s diplomatic corps, teaching and equipping them with leadership and diplomacy skills. It also helps government institutions by providing professional and specialised consultations.
Shaikh Abdullah praised the achievements of the UAE’s foreign policy, saying the country’s moderate approach in foreign policy has allowed it to achieve a distinctive and respected position internationally, playing an important role in helping with international issues. He also emphasised that the UAE’s successful foreign policy was down to the leadership of the country, which believes in building and strengthening ties with nations around the world.
He went on to state that the UAE is committed to continue investing in its people, the country’s most important and valuable asset, and that the country’s future success lies with the people, and several projects would be launched towards this goal, setting the UAE among the world’s leading countries as outlined by its 2021 vision.
Concerning the UAE’s foreign diplomatic missions, Shaikh Abdullah also praised their role and work in helping convey the UAE’s message and characteristics for the international community. He went on to add that there was a need to prepare and train a large number of UAE diplomats for continued foreign service.
