Dubai: Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki arrived in Abu Dhabi on Monday on a two-day state visit for talks on his plans to end the insurgency in Iraq.

He was met at the airport by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, the Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs.

Al Maliki, accompanied by a number of Iraqi government officials, will discuss his new unity government of Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds and his aim of reconciling Iraq?s rival factions.

The Iraqi prime minister is expected to visit Dubai during his brief trip, to seek aid and investment in Iraq, an Emirates government official said.

He arrived following a visit to the Saudi capital Riyadh, where he held talks with King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan and will head to Kuwait on the third leg of his Gulf tour.

The Emirates was one of the first Arab countries to send aid to Iraq following the US-led invasion in 2003. The country has also built and staffed a small hospital in Baghdad, the Shaikh Zayed Hospital.
