Dubai: Forty cadres from Dubai Police have volunteered for the Translation Challenge project launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The challenge aims to translate more than 5,000 educational videos and 11 million words within one year to benefit more than 50 million students in the Arab world.
The 40 cadres who volunteered are holders of doctorates and Master’s degrees in the fields of mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry. Dubai Police force is the first government body that has allocated its employees to contribute to the project for a specific number of weekly volunteer hours.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said: “The Mohammad Bin Rashid Arabic e-Learning Project will open doors for volunteers from different parts of the Arab world, particularly translation students who specialise in fields of science.”
Maj-Gen Al Merri hailed the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Initiatives that aim to create new challenges according to the highest global standards, such as the Translation Challenge.
“Translation is a window to the world that allows for cultural, scientific and knowledge exchange. Dubai Police are keen on carrying out a leading cultural and social role, and constantly strive to consolidate and spread knowledge in the community and among its officers, cadres and employees,” he said.
The Translation Challenge aims to attract thousands of volunteering experts, teachers, researchers and technicians from different parts of the Arab world, who can contribute to the challenge and translate educational content for students.
