Dubai: Dubai Municipality has begun work on developing the Fruit and Vegetable Market in Al Warsan at a cost of Dh370 million.

The works began after the tender for the project was awarded.

Eng Juma Khalifa Al Fuqae, Director of the Assets Management Department, said that the new market will be air-conditioned, with a ground floor occupying an area of 50,000 square metres. It includes an area for loading and offloading, a basement car parking, a wholesale area and renovating, redesigning and installing air-conditioning in a number of the market’s sections.

The project includes the renovation of the market’s internal roads to ensure the smooth flow of traffic inside and outside the market. The market will also provide shaded areas for electric car charging stations and parking spots.

Eng Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said that the project is another important step taken by the municipality to improve rendered services, particularly in the selling of fruits and vegetables in Dubai and meeting the needs and requirements for fruit and vegetables importing, exporting, selling and distributing.
