Abu Dhabi: The UAE and Germany on Tuesday co-chaired the second meeting of the working group on stabilisation of the global coalition against Daesh at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.
Representatives from Iraq and 28 countries and multilateral organisations met to discuss specific areas where the coalition can support the Iraqi Government’s efforts to provide security and access to public services in areas liberated from Daesh.
Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, opened the meeting and emphasised the working group’s strong support for Iraq in this critical phase. Fares Al Mazroui, Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs, and Dr Clemens von Goetze, Director-General for Africa, Asia, Latin America, Near and Middle East of the German Federal Foreign Office, co-chaired the working sessions of the meeting.
The working group on stabilisation is one of five coalition working groups that are coordinating specific coalition activities, including military support, counter-finance, counter-messaging and efforts to stem the flow of foreign fighters.
In addition to co-chairs Germany and the UAE, members in the working group include Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece, Iceland, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Luxembourg, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, US, Arab League, European Union and United Nations.
The working group on stabilisation will continue to meet regularly to consult and coordinate, in a bid to assist in the ongoing Iraqi Government’s stabilisation efforts.
