Contracts worth 7.6 million Saudi riyals for pipework and electrical installations have been awarded by United Lube Oil Co (Unilube), the oil recycling firm. They include pump work for Saudi Pumps Factory and another for valves and fittings for Abu Nayyan Trading Co. ABB Electrical Corp received a contract for electrical installations, transformers and switchgear. The contracts were awarded during a visit by UK Trade Minister Richard Caborn.
Unilube is a joint venture between Saudi investors and Enprotect (Middle East), a British Virgin Islands registered firm. The 70,000-tonne oil recycling plant is coming up at Al Jubail. Production is expected to start this year. It is being set up under the Al Yamamah Economic Offset programme with assistance from BAE Offset Finance.
"Recycling of lubricants is a global issue with implications for future generations. Engine oil can be reused if recycled properly and is obviously much preferable to the alternative disposal," Caborn said. "What's particularly satisfying about Unilube is that it not only brings economic advantages to the kingdom, but the project also has major environmental benefits for the whole region."
