Dubai: The 15-year-old Emirati girl, Khadija Mohammad Saeed Al Hadrami, who went missing from Malaysia, was found on Tuesday. A Palestinian man is being questioned in connection to the incident, an official said.

Nasser Abdullah Salman Al Aboudi, UAE’s Ambassador to Malaysia, told Gulf News that the girl has been reunited with her family. He added that a 22-year- -old Palestinian man was being held and interrogated by the Malaysian police.

Al Aboudi said that the man was using the girl’s phone to send instant text messages to her family and he was also impersonating her. On Tuesday, the man finally contacted the father and asked to meet him at a shopping mall.

“The embassy was following up with both the Malaysian government and police from day one” he said.

He explained that the father notified them and the police and embassy set a trap to catch the man.

When the man arrived with the girl, police in plain clothes arrested him, Al Aboudi said.

The girl, he said, will be taken to the hospital for check ups after police have completed procedures.

When asked if the man had asked for a ransom, Al Aboudi said that he had not asked for anything, but to meet the father.

Khadija went missing on December 23, from a shopping mall in Kuala Lampur, where she was on vacation with her family.

The relieved father, Mohammad Saeed Al Hadrami told Gulf News over the phone from Malaysia, that he was very happy that his daughter is finally back.

“Thank god for her return. I want to thank the UAE government and all the Shaikhs and everyone who helped in bringing her back.” Al Hadrami said. He added: “The phone would not stop ringing in those past few days, I got calls from everyone — government officials and regular people.”

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, thanked the Malaysian government for helping to find the girl on his twitter account.
