Dubai: Ten new innovative ecological initiatives are being adopted by the government to improve public services for UAE residents.
Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, said the ministry will present the new initiatives during UAE Innovation Week from November 22 to 28 focusing on the marine environment, biodiversity, air quality, water resources and plant health.
The ministry said the roll-out of new services is “an opportunity for all government institutions to showcase the most prominent efforts in adopting the culture of innovation”.
Bin Fahd said the push is the culmination of months of work to encourage innovation within the ministry work process since the declaration of year 2015 as the Year of Innovation.
The efforts are real, practical solutions that received international accreditation earlier this year by the Global Leadership Institute in collaboration with Boston University for innovative management in all categories, including professional, managerial, and executive management.
“This reflects the ministry’s efforts to establish a culture of innovation and create a working framework, providing society with the opportunity to thrive and cultivate their skill sets as part of the initiatives of UAE’s Vision 2021,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday.
On the first day of UAE Innovation Week, the ministry will announce ‘Smart Qarqoor,’ ‘Green Heritage,’ and ‘Innovation in Agricultural Work’ projects, followed by ‘Drop of Life’ and ‘Bio-Refinery’ initiatives on the second day.
In addition, the launch of the ‘Monitor and Control’ initiative and ‘Be a Reason for My Stay and Discover Your Country’s Reserves’ will be unveiled on the third day, while the ‘UAE Programme of Environmental Excellence’ and ‘Innovation Camp’ will be introduced at the end of the week.
In 2014, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched a seven-year strategy to help UAE local, federal and private sectors move towards meaningful innovative solutions by 2021.
Previous studies have already deemed the UAE as one of the most pioneering nations in the Middle East.
The 2014 Global Innovation Index, published by US-based Cornell University, Europe’s renowned business school INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organisation, ranked the UAE as the best in innovation among Middle Eastern nations.
