Dubai: More than 2,000 mosques in Dubai will switch to the Dubai Lamp, which is considered to be the most energy-efficient LED lamp in the world.

Manufactured in a joint initiative by Philips Lighting and Dubai Municipality, Duba Lamp is the world’s first commercially available 200 lumen per watt LED lamp.

The municipality on Monday signed energy and water conservation agreements with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Dubai World Trade Centre, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Roads and Transport Authority and Shaikh Zayed Housing Programme.

The agreement will involve these five entities installing various models of Dubai Lamp in their existing buildings and facilities and/or upcoming projects according to their respective lighting requirements and needs. Dubai Municipality and Philips Lighting are preparing to supply two million Dubai Lamps for residential and commercial use across the city this year, which is expected to be increased to 10 million lamps by 2021.

Dubai Lamp is available in four of the most commonly used lamps for residential indoor lighting.
