Sharjah: The Criminal Evidence Department of Sharjah is investigating the cause of a massive fire that completely destroyed a car and partly damaged others in the parking lot of Sahara Center on Sunday.

There were no reports of injuries but that the fire, which broke out at around 12:15am, also destroyed cars in the area.

An official at the Sharjah Emergency and Public Safety Directorate of Sharjah police told Gulf News that the fire broke out in one of the parked cars and the flame spread swiftly to nearby cars.

The vehicle where the blaze started carried an Abu Dhabi plate number. The owner has been identified as A.O.

On receiving the alert, Civil Defence and emergency teams rushed to the scene and contained the fire before it caused more losses, the police official said.

Many visitors of Sahara Center told Gulf News that they were stranded outside while waiting for permission from authorities to pick up their cars.
