Fujairah: A two-year-old Emirati girl drowned in the swimming pool of a villa in Qadfa area, Fujairah, late on Saturday, police said

The Emirati girl, identified as R.R.M., was found floating in the pool of her family villa.

Brigadier Mohammad Ganem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that police received an alert over the incident around 2.30pm.

He said that a preliminary report indicated that the child entered the swimming pool unsupervised and unnoticed.

The girl was rushed to Fujairah hospital where the she was pronounced dead.

The child’s burial was cleared by the police as they did not suspect criminal intent, the police said.

The parents of the girl will be summoned to the police station to be questioned shortly, he added.

Brig. Al Kaabi appealed to parents to monitor their children at all times, particularly in areas such as swimming pools. Negligence by parents in such cases can lead to legal action.
