Ras Al Khaimah: Police here recovered the car after it accidentally rolled into the sea in Al Rams area late on Sunday night.
The Arab driver and his compatriot, who are in their 20s, were rescued by police before their car sank in the sea water, which an official blamed to an unlit road and the driver's carelessness.
Brigadier Hassan Ebrahim, deputy director general of the central operations room of Ras Al Kaimah police, said that the central operations room received a tip-off that a vehicle had fallen into the sea after it fell off the edge of the road without barriers.
A woman present near the scene reported the incident to authorities, after which rescuers rushed to the site.
Maritime rescue teams, police patrols and emergency workers rescued the duo, following which the vehicle was also recovered.
Brig. Ebrahim said the accident resulted due to the lack of street lights at the site — as well as the driver’s inattention.
The file of the incident has been forwarded to the competent authorities for further investigation.
Meanwhile, residents of the area called on authorities to install concrete barriers and install signs to avoid such incidents.
Residents said it was not the first such incident on the same spot.
