Dubai: Dubai Police launched a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of parking vehicles on the pavement, police said on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa Ali Sultan from Al Muraqqabat police station said there is an increase in number of fines in the area as they fined 13,482 drivers in the first half of this year compared to 8,586 fines issued during the same period last year.
“There is an increase in number of fines this year in Muraqqabat area. This offence endangers the lives of pedestrians and breaching their rights. Cars on the pavement also disfigures the public image of the place,” Lt Col Sultan said.
First Lieutenant Adil Al Hashemi, director of Traffic Records in the station, said the campaign will help raise awareness among drivers about the offence.
“The campaign will continue for one month. We want to raise the awareness among drivers to understand what danger they cause by parking a vehicle on the pavement,” First Lt Al Hashemi said.
The fine for parking on the pavement is Dh400.
