Sharjah: As part of its eco-friendly initiatives in enhancing security in the emirate, Sharjah Police have launched a new patrol by officers who will ride electric two-wheel bikes at crowded places around the emirate.

Aimed at patrolling tourist spots such as Al Qasba, the new mode of transportation will help police execute their duties better and access areas faster.

Colonel Dr Khalifa Kalanter, director of the Comprehensive Police Stations at Sharjah Police, said electric bikes are excellent for quick transportation in crowded areas and special security work.

These green vehicles will also reduce noise pollution apart from giving out zero petrol fumes, he added.

“By increasing the use of dependable and sustainable energy and reducing carbon emission that is harmful to the environment, Sharjah Police are working towards creating an environment that is safe, clean and attractive,” Col Kalanter said

The single-person green bike is powered by an electric engine and has a maximum speed of about 20 kmph.

Once charged, it can run for eight hours.
