Ajman: Two suspects were arrested in Ajman for allegedly robbing bank customers exiting banks, police said on Sunday.

The suspects - father and his son - were arrested just 24 hours after the crime was committed.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Deputy Director of Police Operations Department at Ajman Police, said the suspects monitored customers who withdrew money from banks and robbed them.

The arrest was made after police received a complaint from an Asian man who was targeted by the suspects. The victim told police that after he had withdrawn Dh70,000 from a bank in Ajman, he was approached by a stranger who within a few seconds snatched Dh24,000 out of the victim’s hands and fled on foot.

Police later identified the suspect and arrested him in his residence in Sharjah.

The main suspect [father] confessed to committing the crime and snatching the money in a few seconds, he also stated that his son accompanied him during the robbery.

The role of his son was limited to talk to the security guard in the bank during the robbery of the victim to distract his attention and the father would then snatch the money and flee.

Police recovered the full amount of the stolen Dh24,000.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.

He appealed to the public to be aware of fraudsters and thieves and to be extremely cautious when carrying large amounts of money when exiting banks.
