ABU DHABI: The third hearing in the case of the sexual abuse and murder of an 11-year-old boy has established that the accused is mentally and psychologically fit to stand trial.

Medical records submitted to the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court on Wednesday affirmed the mental fitness of the accused.

In a previous hearing, his defence lawyer claimed the accused was psychologically unfit and demanded for a professional evaluation of his mental capacity.

During the Wednesday proceedings, it was also proven that he lied n court. The suspect admitted during the hearing that he is mentally fit and doesn’t have any psychological issues.

The accused, however, repeated his denial in court about the charges of murder.

He blamed the agents of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Abu Dhabi Police for forging a case against him.

The boy, Azan Majid Janjua, had gone missing in June and his body was later found on the rooftop of the building in Abu Dhabi where his family lived.

Major General Maktoum Al Sharifi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Police, said the police have arrested a Pakistani man who confessed that he raped the victim and strangled him to death. Al Sharifi, in a statement, praised the efficient efforts of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which led to the immediate arrest of the suspect. The police did not reveal any further details about the suspect. A family friend of the boy told Gulf News on Monday that the family has been waiting for the completion of formalities to receive the boy’s body. “The family has not decided about the burial… whether to do it in Abu Dhabi or Pakistan or Russia,” said the friend who did not want to be named. Gulf News exclusively reported on Friday that the boy’s father is a Pakistani and mother a Russian. The mother, who used to visit her son in Abu Dhabi, was in the city when the tragedy occurred.
