Dubai: A manager has been jailed for three months for mowing a doctor down with his car and dislocating his shoulder following a parking row.

The 49-year-old Syrian manager parked his car in a villa compound in such a way that it blocked the passageway and the Indian doctor was stuck in his vehicle in September.

The doctor and the manager indulged in a heated argument after he [doctor] scolded him from parking his car inappropriately.

The two men got involved in a physical altercation after which the compound’s Indian security guard intervened and stopped them from quarrelling.

After that the doctor called the police, but the Syrian manager tried to drive away from the scene. When the doctor tried to stop him, the 49-year-old manager mowed him down with his car.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the manager of assaulting the doctor and causing him a 25 per cent permanent disability in his shoulder.

The Syrian had pleaded not guilty and refuted the accusations.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar also referred the doctor’s civil lawsuit to the Dubai Civil Court.

The victim is seeking Dh21,000 from the manager in temporary compensation against his permanent disability.

The doctor testified that the accused mowed him down and injured his shoulder following an altercation over parking.

Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
