Dubai: An unemployed man was arrested in Dubai for using someone else’s Emirates ID because he had been staying illegally in the UAE.

A police lieutenant arrested the 26-year-old Bangladeshi man during a random check in Al Muraqqabat area in March.

The lieutenant stopped the 26-year-old on suspicion and asked him to show his identification papers.

While checking the Emirates ID card the man had presented, the lieutenant decided to take the man to the police station to do some further background check on him.

Records showed the 26 year-old had presented the Emirates ID card belonging to someone else who was outside the country.

Upon further questioning, the Bangladeshi man admitted that he had found the Emirates ID in Sharjah and was using it temporarily because he had been staying illegally in the UAE.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with using someone else’s ID card.

When he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, he pleaded guilty.

A ruling will be heard soon.
