Ras Al Khaimah: A man has been sentenced to death after he was convicted of murdering his wife and chopping her body into pieces.
The verdict was announced by Judge Mohammad Al Khatri in Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court.
The sentence comes after a court ruling that he stabbed the victim with a knife and a meat cleaver on February 17. 2013.
The 38-year-old Iraqi woman’s body was discovered at the family home. Her husband turned himself in police within hours of the murder.
“According to our investigations we are submitting three charges to the criminal court: deprivation of the victim’s freedom, torture and premeditated murder,” a judiciary official previously told Gulf News.
The couple had been having marital disputes for nearly seven years, according to Ras Al Khaimah Public Prosecution. The family had lived in Ras Al Khaimah since 2005. The suspect used to work but later became unemployed.
Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, Director-General of Police Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police’s General Directorate, said the Iraqi suspect, identified as A.J.A., 47, is believed to have waited until his children had left the house to carry out what he described as a “hideous crime”.
The Iraqi woman, identified as S.A., worked for Ras Al Khaimah’s Police Traffic Department.
She left behind three children, a 21-year-old son and two daughters aged 13 and 16. They refused to pardon their father.
Dr Riyadh Jawad, a psychologist at Obaid Allah Hospital, was assigned by Ras Al Khaimah Police to follow up their condition.
Earlier, he told Gulf News at the time of the murder that he was trying his best to help the children cope with their trauma.
“For the majority of children, the home is the central source of security, protection and well-being. The fear of losing one or both parents is a direct threat to a child’s need for protection,” said Dr Jawad.
“I met the two girls and found that they were in a miserable condition, scared and crying after the dynamics of their family changed. They fear the unknown and feel that they have lost everything.”
