Abu Dhabi: The cybercrime prosecution in Abu Dhabi ordered on Monday to put an Emirati suspect behind bars until the investigation into his alleged cybercrimes are completed.

The suspect, Ahmed Mansour Al Shehi, was accused of defaming the UAE through social media channels, said a statement issued by the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department on Monday. 

The prosecution ordered his arrest on Sunday and presented the electronic evidence in the court.

The  suspect allegedly used social media sites like Twitter, Facebook etc. to publish false information, rumours and lies about the UAE and promoted sectarian feelings and hatred that would  damage the UAE's social harmony and unity.

He also published false information to damage UAE's reputation abroad and encouraged his followers on social media not to follow the UAE laws and portrayed the UAE as a lawless land; the General Prosecution is following up on the investigation into his crimes, said the statement.
