Dubai: A driver accused of secretly filming his neighbour’s wife as she was about to take a shower has been jailed for three months.
In the December incident, the 31-year-old Indian man allegedly used his mobile phone to film the the 42-year-old woman through the washroom window.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of breaching the woman’s modesty and privacy and molesting her.
The accused pleaded not guilty, telling the court that “I did not film her naked. I took a photo of her face”.
Delivering the verdict on Monday, presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat said: “The photos that were secretly taken will be deleted from the confiscated phone. The accused will be deported after serving his jail term.”
The woman claimed that she grew suspicious after noticing a red light coming from the exhaust fan outlet in the washroom. She raised an alarm causing her husband to rush out of the house and apprehend the defendant. The husband claimed that the defendant admitted his guilt after which he called the police.
The defendant was cited admitting to prosecutors that he secretly filmed the wife because he liked her.
Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
