Abu Dhabi: The State Security Court at the Federal Supreme Court adjourned on Monday case number 121 for the year 2015 in which an Emirati is accused of joining Al Nusra Front in Syria to September 7.

The judge, Shehab Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, said he decided to adjourn the case to give time to the forensics labs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to work on their examination of audio and video files that are part of the evidence against the defendant, K.T.M.

The court had earlier sent the case files to the forensics labs at Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Police to examine a short video presented by the public prosecution last week as evidence that the defendant had joined Al Nusra in Syria.

On Monday, the session started with the public prosecution submitting an official request to the court to adjourn the case as the forensics labs had not yet arrived at results. The defendant, however, directly addressed the court, requesting the judge to announce the sentence as he said he had been waiting for the lab results for over five months.

The defendant also said that the mobile number and mobile phone in his name do not belong to him, and denied any ties to the laptop that the prosecution has in his name. He added that he had refused to sign the investigation files, and repeated his request to the judge to announce the sentence before the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday.

In other sessions, the judge adjourned two State Security cases to September 14 where the defendants include a GCC national, an Arab man, and two Emiratis. The cases were adjourned to give time to the defendants to appoint lawyers before the prosecution presents the accusations against them. All the defendants will return to jail till then.
