Bern, Switzerland: The Swiss government says it has frozen 27 million Swiss francs ($31.8 million) linked to senior Syrian officials.
A spokeswoman for Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Antje Baertschi, confirmed local media reports Sunday that the assets were identified as part of the Swiss sanctions imposed against Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and 22 other officials.
Switzerland has taken similar measures to freeze 650 million francs linked to the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, 410 million francs to deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and 60 million to Tunisia's former autocrat Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali.
