Occupied Jerusalem: The United Nations is investigating reports that Israeli troops have shelled a building where civilians were hiding in Gaza City last weekend.
A newly released UN report said that 30 people died in the shelling, calling it “one of the gravest incidents'' to happen since an Israeli incursion into Gaza on January 4.
Israeli human rights groups and media reports also confirmed the incident, saying the building was attack after Israeli troops told civilians to enter the building.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said the UN report should be the basis for an investigation of "war crimes elements."
The report, by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, offered no evidence that the attack was deliberate.
The Israeli military denied troops had forced civilians into a particular building, which was then shelled.
