Palestinian leadership urgest practical steps following reconciliation
Palestinian leadership unanimously approved the outcome of the Doha reconciliation meeting between Fatah and Hamas
Ramallah: The Palestinian leadership including the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), Fatah Central Committee along with the secretary generals of the various Palestinian factions unanimously approved on Thursday the outcome of the Doha reconciliation meeting between Fatah and Hamas and urged the meeting's outcome to be translated with practical steps on the ground.
"The unity interim government should be formed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the earliest and this government should stick to the PLO political program and meet all the PLO commitments," said Yasser Abded Raboo, PLO Secretary General at a press conference held at the Ramallah presidential headquarters.
He added that the Palestinian leadership instructed the Central Election Committee to start registering the residents of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and occupied East Jerusalem as quickly as possible.
"A new firm date should be set for the coming Palestinian general elections," he said. Abed Raboo said that he has seen no reassuring steps from the Israeli side to start any sort of direct negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
