Palestinian killed in Gaza strikes
One Palestinian was killed and four others injured after an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a vehicle in the Gaza Strip.
Occupied Jerusalem: One Palestinian was killed and four others injured after an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a vehicle in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack near the northern town of Beit Hanoun, saying it had targeted rocket launchers that gunmen had set up in the area.
Earlier, an Israeli air strike destroyed a bridge in the northern Gaza Strip. Officials said bridges were hit to hinder the movement of militants.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defence Minister Amir Peretz approved the incursions in an attempt to free a kidnapped Israeli soldier.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas spoke out about the recent attacks, accusing Israel of military escalation in the Gaza Strip. He also said Israeli forces were targeting civilians and worsening Palestinian hardship.
"The situation is extremely difficult," he told reporters in Amman. "The Israelis are continuously escalating. They are targeting civilians on the one side and the infrastructure of the Palestinian Authority on the other."
