London: New Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said that restoring security is his top priority despite his government facing a “credibility problem''.
Fayyad told the BBC that his emergency cabinet's problems stemmed from failures in the past to curb lawlessness.
"I think we do have a serious credibility problem and that ... emanates from the fact that there is total breakdown here ... particularly in the security sphere," he said
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Fayyad as Prime Minister to replace Hamas's Esmail Haniya, and swore in his new cabinet on Sunday after he dismissed the Hamas-led government.
Fayyad said that his cabinet would work to "put an end to the anomaly of the dishonourable events", referring to Hamas taking control of Gaza.
