Israel to discuss Hamas proposal with Egypt
Israel will hear a proposal for a truce with Hamas in the Gaza Strip when an Egyptian mediator visits on Monday, though the Jewish state will not take part in direct negotiations with the group, officials said on Sunday
Occupied Jerusalem: Israel will hear a proposal for a truce with Hamas in the Gaza Strip when an Egyptian mediator visits on Monday, though the Jewish state will not take part in direct negotiations with the group, officials said on Sunday.
Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilnai told Israel Radio: "Omar Suleiman will come, we will listen to him, we will confer, we will see what he is offering, and on that basis we will make decisions".
Referring to Hamas' refusal to renounce violence and recognise Israel, he said: "As of now, there is nothing on the table for discussion... We have no dialogue with an organisation that flies the flag of our destruction''.
Another Israeli official confirmed the talks will talk place on Monday.
