Dubai: Lebanese flags were displayed by hundreds of people at Dubai Media City yesterday to demonstrate against the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon that has so far resulted in the deaths of over 150 civilians.
In a speech delivered to the crowd in front of the MBC building, Elias Maroun, 36, said the aim of the protest was to force the world to "save Lebanon and Lebanese civilians from the Israeli aggression."
"Killing innocent civilians is not an act of self-defence... the besieged Lebanese population has no way out. Peace begins with justice," he said.
"We are here to show our anger and dismay at Israel, as well as the international community for allowing this to happen," Egyptian Niveen Abbas, 32.
UAE national Badoor Mohammad said she attended to show her support for the Lebanese people.
"I believe Hezbollah is a resistance movement that is defending Lebanon. This is nothing to do with religion," said 24-year-old Lebanese national, Hassan Wehbe.
This was reflected in those who took part in the demonstration, with both Muslims and Christians represented.
"There is no difference between Christians and Muslims, we are all united against this aggression," said Maroun.
"I came here because Nasrallah yesterday called on people to show which side they are on and to speak the truth," said Ali Shokr, 30 from southern Lebanon.
Lebanese-Canadian, Shouky Abu Ayash, 52, said: "I believe that things are just going to escalate further. None of this violence is justified. We are losing the most precious thing: life."
