US experts begin inspecting remains of Beirut blast

Last updated:

Beirut: A US security team including FBI experts began inspecting evidence on Thursday from the car bomb blast that targeted a US Embassy vehicle on Tuesday, in the first such attack in Lebanon in over two decades.

Authorities cordoned off the site of the blast on a north Beirut highway which killed three passers-by and wounded 26 others, and a giant tent was placed over the scene to preserve evidence.

US investigators also began a "technical survey of the scene in the presence of Lebanese forensic experts," a senior Lebanese security official said.

Experts were seen collecting evidence from the wreckage of several vehicles that were damaged in the blast, including the armour-plated US Embassy SUV, which was the bomb's target.
